Meet Your Expert Instructor: John Rapp

John Rapp, Arnco Safety’s Operations Manager and lead instructor, brings over 30 years of experience in occupational safety and health. He has trained hundreds of students through:

  • 10- and 30-Hour OSHA Construction Outreach
  • 10- and 30-Hour General Industry Outreach
  • EM-385-1-1 Training for fall protection with the Corps of Engineers
  • HAZWOPER
  • And other vital safety courses.

Why John Advocates for In-Person Training

John emphasizes the importance of hands-on training to ensure the lessons are learned:

“Many of these classes are offered online, but I don’t recommend them. Students need the classroom time and hands-on experience that online courses simply can’t provide. For example, the HAZWOPER course includes sections that require hands-on exercises. If it’s done online, there’s no way to confirm students are practicing critical techniques.”

John also notes the benefits of in-person learning for specific courses, such as the EM-385-1-1 fall protection training:

“We teach the 24-hour fall protection course for the Corps of Engineers and the Bureau here at the Arnco facility. The classroom atmosphere eliminates distractions, and we provide all the necessary props and tools for hands-on practice. It’s a three-day course, and students leave truly prepared. We offer it multiple times throughout the year.”

Why Arnco Safety Training Stands Out

Arnco Safety provides more than just certifications—we deliver comprehensive, hands-on training that equips your team with the skills and confidence to stay safe on the job. Here’s what makes our programs exceptional:

1. Experienced Instructors

Our training team, led by Operations Manager John Rapp, boasts decades of real-world experience in safety and compliance. With over 30 years in the field, John’s insights go beyond the textbook, bringing practical knowledge to life in the classroom. His ability to explain complex safety regulations in an approachable and actionable way ensures students leave with a deep understanding of the material.

John isn’t just an instructor—he’s a mentor who is passionate about empowering workers to identify risks and implement effective safety measures.

2. Real-World Scenarios

Safety training isn’t just about knowing the rules—it’s about being prepared for the unexpected. That’s why Arnco Safety emphasizes practical, real-world scenarios in every course.

For example, our Permit-Required Confined Space Entry course focuses on the roles of the designated “competent person” and entry supervisor. It will present an overview of applicable regulations, including the methods and rules that competent entry supervisors must follow before, during, and after confined space work.

A confined space hinders the activities of employees who must enter, work in, and exit them. Working in confined spaces is dangerous and requires specialized confined space training.

Our Safe Grain Handling Operations course leverages hands-on exercises to address real hazards like entrapment and engulfment, giving participants the tools to handle these situations effectively.

3. State-of-the-Art Training Facilities

Our Safety Training Center in Trenton, Illinois, is purpose-built for immersive learning. The facility includes all the props, tools, and equipment necessary for hands-on training.

Why train here? In-person learning at a dedicated facility eliminates distractions, creating an environment where students can focus and engage deeply with the material. Our hands-on approach ensures that participants leave not just with knowledge, but with the ability to apply it confidently.

4. Tailored Learning for Compliance and Beyond

All of our courses are designed to meet or exceed OSHA and other regulatory standards, including EM-385-1-1 guidelines for Corps of Engineers projects. But compliance is just the beginning.

Our goal is to empower workers and managers with actionable skills they can use immediately. Whether it’s mastering emergency rescue techniques or understanding the nuances of confined space entry, our courses go beyond “check-the-box” certifications to deliver real value.

5. Engaging and Collaborative Environment

Our instructors are known for their engaging teaching style. Students consistently praise our team for making classes informative, approachable, and even enjoyable:

  • “Informative and engaging. Our guys seemed to enjoy the training. Mark and staff made it interesting and were very accommodating.”
  • “Very knowledgeable! The instructors pointed out good things to help keep our people safe.”

Interactive discussions and hands-on exercises foster collaboration and create a team-oriented learning experience. This approach ensures students are not just passive participants but active learners who leave with a strong grasp of the material.

6. Proven Results and Trust

Employers across Southern Illinois and the St. Louis area trust Arnco Safety for their training needs. Our reputation for excellence stems from our ability to deliver tangible results, equipping teams to work safer, reduce incidents, and improve productivity.
